Pace. Drive. Ambition. Motives. All words that shape our daily routines. All words that shape how we see the people around us and how we view ourselves. Our pace, drive, ambition, and motives are and will always be the center of who we are. As soon as we wake up and hit the ground running we already have our day planned out. Even during COVID-19. *CORONA VIRUS* - Cardi B voice. It’s the culture that we live in, our first response is when we see something that we want, we go after it. The job, the boy, the girl, the friend group, and the list goes on. My question I think about often is, I wonder what would happen if we turn our pace, drive, ambition, and motives fully to the mission of getting people to Jesus - to the mission of the lost being found, and sick being healed. In Mark 2:1-12, we see this mission come to life. We see a group of friends so moved that their hyper focus is on their paralyzed friend being healed by Jesus, the one who can heal all sickness and forgive all sin. In these verses, we see the paralyzed man's friends literally break through a roof in order for their friend to just have a single moment with Jesus. It’s in this scripture we see a few beautiful things take place: selfless motives, unity, and healing. It’s in this scripture that Jesus is trying to show us how to change our pace, change our motives, and change our overall perspective. If you really dig into this and slow down, this gut checks you on many levels. Maybe you’re the paralyzed friend who is in need of their community to notice they need a miracle from Jesus...or maybe you’re the friend who needs to change their pace and realize that someone around you is in need of a spiritual or physical miracle. Being paralyzed doesn’t have to look like you are down one body part or all body parts. It can look like depression & anxiety attempting to take over your life. It can look like a cycle of sin that you can’t seem to get out of. So I want to encourage someone, do not become so preoccupied that we forget that we are all on the same level, on the same wave, and all in need of a miracle. You see, we are all in need of a community to walk out our faith with. We all need people to be willing to hyper focus their faith & motives in order to literally bust through a roof for us to get to Jesus. You see, your faith, motives, and pace might be the very thing that brings healing to your paralyzed friend or community.
Reflection: What’s your current pace? Motive? Where could you adjust your pace? Motives? Are you filling your faith tank with the word of God?
