You probably read the title of this expecting some kind of blog post on how to fix your brakes on your car, but let me tell you… you have come to the wrong person.

God has literally placed me in a season of BRAKE CHECKS. Some personal foundation brake checks, friend & relationship brake checks, spiritual brake checks… and the list goes on.

In this season, through God's faithfulness, I have learned that it’s okay to slow down. Which is hard… especially for the culture we live in… and especially for my personality type. I’m the type of person who feels the pressure of always feeling like I have to have something to say, or always have my life together through the lens of Instagram at least. I can get lost in my mind trying to figure out details and ways to continue a conversation.

BUT God in this season has reminded me that I don’t always have to have the answers or know the details. It’s okay to say I DO NOT KNOW and to NOT have my life together. It’s no longer my job to have my foot on the gas pedal of life.

To confirm all of this, He placed me in Matthew 6:33 to give me a perspective shift.

In this chapter, we see three things take place that we need to daily align ourselves with:

Seek the kingdom of God.

-- We no longer can seek out own agendas

-- We no longer can be only about us but Kingdom business

Live Righteously

-- Daily dying to our sin

-- Daily reminding ourselves of who we are in the image of God

Trust God.

-- He already has a plan. Trust it.

-- Align our hearts with His

When I read this scripture, I had a gut check. Not just for myself, but for you, and the culture that we live in. I felt the need to remind myself, as well as you, that it’s time to pump the brakes. It’s time to release the gas pedal, and it’s time to check in on our foundation that we are built upon.

Life isn’t easy, especially when you don’t have the answers or know what is next. I get it, more than you know. Let me encourage you that something beautiful happens when we hit the brakes and surrender our plans to just sit in the presence of God. Something peaceful happens when we surrender our plans to follow God.

So today, hit the brakes. Get real with yourself and God. Surround yourself with people who ask hard questions.
